“Us against them” than it is now. I have a distinct memory of a local mosque offering security to the Tree of Life synagogue after that atrocity. So, anti-Muslim sentiment and anti-semitism weren’t really being driven by the conflict between Muslims and Jews, to which the political conflicts of the Mideast should never be reduced. Anti-Muslim bigotry was driven by 9/11. Which is just as wrong, but different.

I don’t trust bibi as far as I could throw him to put Israel’s or any interests above his own. So I fear he will exploit Israeli rage to try to stay in power as long as possible, doing things which will be against everyone’s long term interest in peace. But - ardent support for Hamas, which is extremely evident across higher education, should be called out for what it is. It is not support for the Palestinian cause. It is support for the Islamist cause, including the destruction of Jews (among others) everywhere.

Support for Hamas is anti-Semitic, anti-democracy, and anti-human rights. It is pro-Islamist and pro-terrorism. Young people conflating that with support for Palestinian rights should be called out definitively, in no uncertain terms, by everyone. Especially on the left.
